Häufige Fragen

What are average stock market returns over 100 years?+
The US stock market has returned approximately 9.8% annually in nominal terms and 6.5-7% in real (inflation-adjusted) terms over the last century. European markets have averaged slightly lower returns. These figures include dividends reinvested and span major crashes, wars, and economic crises.
How long does it take markets to recover after a crash?+
Recovery time varies significantly. The 2020 COVID crash recovered in about 5 months. The 2008 financial crisis took about 5 years to new highs. The 1929 crash took 25 years for a full nominal recovery. However, investors who continued investing during downturns typically recovered much faster due to buying at lower prices.
Is gold a good inflation hedge?+
Gold has been an inconsistent inflation hedge. Over very long periods (decades), gold has roughly preserved purchasing power. However, over shorter 5-10 year periods, it has sometimes massively outperformed and sometimes badly underperformed inflation. Stocks have historically been a more reliable long-term inflation hedge.
